The last victim of the Kings Cross fire, whose identity has remained unknown for 16 years, has been named by police.

Alexander Fallon's body, found in the aftermath of the 1987 blaze which devastated the Tube station, has, until now, only been known by its tag number: 115.

His daughters approached police to suggest the final victim may be their father, who, aged 72, was living rough on the streets of London at the time of the fire - and ceased to collect his social security immediately after the disaster.

Forensic scientists have now managed to confirm the identity of 115 as Mr Fallon.

I have of late,- but wherefore I know not,- lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises, and indeed it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory..
